How poor is Star Trek Discovery?

Postby RavenCharm » Thu Feb 07, 2019 1:37 pm

Honestly, I have no one to talk to about this, but honestly how poor do you think Star Trek Discovery actually is?
I personally think it is becoming unwatchable and it is a real shame after so more amazing Trek over the years.
Any comments?

I've never seen it but now I'm curious. I put in the the watch list but they want around $35 to watch it. Think I'll wait till it comes down.

Now who would have thought that the spiritual successor to classic Trek would not come from anyone in the Roddenberry camp but... Seth MacFarlane???

There must be a Rule of Acquisition covering this...

Seth MacFarlane I think used Rule of Acquisition 15: Acting stupid is often smart

STD (Star Trek Discovery) creators are using Rule of Acquisition 26: The vast majority of the rich in this galaxy did not inherit their wealth, they stole it

I find it so frustrating because every now and then you can see how good it could be. But then the show veers off on some weird tangent, often hard to follow what is going on. Such a shame. But at least the orville feels a lot more like star trek (especially tng) and I am hopeful the new Jean Luc Picard show/film may be rather good

I agree. The Orville looks like it is just a spoof, however as each show goes on it is really good Trek, it simply is. The double parter which finishes tonight I think is great.

I agree about the Orville! I saw several places that that was the longest space battle ever produced for television! Some of the episodes are just brilliant.

I know that there has been some really bad star trek, like on voyager where Cp Janeway and Tom had babies when they accidently turned into amphibians, but even though all Trek through all seasons of all iterations, even the bad episodes are still better written and acted and watchable than the best episodes of STD. Maybe its just because the best actors are working on Orville and Lucifer so were not available for the show, so they had to employ actors with the ability of drying wood, not that you can blame then considering the script writing. I do not have happy feelings towards the Picard show, I feel it will be terrible too.

I am a die-hard fan of the original series, so nothing will ever compare for me. I do agree that Discovery is probably the worst effort out there in the string of successors. Save your $35.00!

I hears this over the weekend and waited until I could confirm it. Fox will no longer air new episodes, though they will still produce them. Seth McFarlane was allowed to negotiate a deal with Hulu, and starting in the Autumn of 2020 all new episodes will be aired on Hulu. This will allow McFarlane to write and make longer episodes. some of those story ideas he had didn't fit into the time constrains that he had at FOX. There were times he had to cut several minutes of script to fit the time frame. So while that will be a plus, it will no longer be on Fox.

I think my views on STD were a little harsh, After seeing the Picard show, its worse.

I'm watching Stargate Universe again right now. It's a great sci-fi show. I just can't believe it got cancelled...
