With the update, I am not thrilled with the idea that you cannot anymore access the sample pics from the older archived sets. Not expecting to see any of the members pics but when I join I often reviewed some of the older archived free preview pics to decide if I wanted to join because those sets would all be complete to view WHEN I join.
Progress shouldn't go backwards.

Whoa! I didn't even realize they fixed that! Awesome!

Ahhh...they always were able to previously, but it was just the sample ones. Maybe it was an oversite but it was much appreciated and I sure used it to decide which charms I joined 'cause then I could see what themes they were doing, etc. Hard to do that from just the initial one pic.
Tho I miss the opportunity to preview, I still plan on joining, especially if they are ones I may hopefully shoot with
Might I add yours have ALWAYS been knock down gorgeous and today's update made me wish I could jump upon you only to have to turn the tables

Removing the older preview pict's seems like a self defeating move. Alot of models have large collections, and the older sets are frequently more interesting, and after having a look, I've joined her site just to get older photos'. Won't be doing that anymore.

Also, and this is a biggie, they are blocking download software. I've paid for access, and now someone expects me to manually click each photo link to review.... on a large update this is tediously slow.

As in most industry, IT is out of touch with the user experience. I doubt they did any UAT or even passed this by a select group for review.

As I understand it, the download software aspect has not been totally blocked, just limited so that fans and members are not able to download the massive amount at once as previously.

This is definitely NOT to upset the members, but it is to protect the model's income.

Our photos and videos are constantly stolen and reposted, sometimes even full site rips daily, on other free sharing sites, and yes, even on other "pay" sites.

Some Fans believe they are complimenting the model when they repost her content, however they are in fact actually hurting the model they adore in the wallet. And like most, we depend on our pay checks to pay our bills, etc. And UNLIKE most, we have the added expense of purchasing tons of clothes, shoes, boots, jewelry photo equipment etc in order to produce those photos ............

So yes, as a member fans have access and can download, but the amount has been limited per occurance pertaining to the download.
It's something that has to be carefully worked around and dealt with as some fans believe that a membership means the content is theirs and they can repost it, when in actuality a membership grants them access and permission to save their favorite photos and videos to their computers, but does not give them permission to repost that content.

I have over 1000 updates and bonus updates, going back to 12/2004 when I started and have always felt that my recent stuff is so much improved that back then. But in reading the comments here concerning the older stuff, I'm going to see if I can incorporate a few of those older pics with each of my new updates from now on so that they appear in my "free" side posting.

I get your point, but implying that content theft (reposting) is behind every "bulk" download of content is not really fair since if that was the case, who would ever sign up for
6 months of membership? My point was that when joining a models site, there could be 10K to 50K photo's, and I doubt many people (males) want to download pictures for viewing one by one. Perhaps zip files of sets with an additional security step (Captcha) to protect against bots.

I added a set the other day a look back on some past sets. On the free side there was 50 photos, that's the max allowed on free, pay side
had over 100 more. I do a look back set every now and then.
I now have 1850 sets and Bonus sets. Over 186 thousand photos. Like Serena said the new content is
much better. Larger photos, clearer photos, with the improvements of cameras since I started my site in 2001
is amazing the difference, but all the old ones are still available. My photos have been stolen by the 10 thousands at a time
and it sure does hurt.

On my part, after joining more that 50 of the charms sites over the years, I hardly look at stealing content...especially when I prefer to be IN the content if possible
I do understand the idea of it, tho it was only 4-5 pictures from each set that was available in free previews from past issues. I personally used some of those in review when deciding which was the next charm I was going to join. So anyway, I guess I won't be able to do that anymore. Whatever the decision is, I'll abide as I always have but it does narrow down choices seeing as I can't review the archive previews if I think I saw a set awhile back that I'd like to see the drift of.

Why should that cause you to have issue with SC?

When a charm retires and her site is closed on SC, it's because the model has requested it. The content belongs to HER, and is licensed to SC. SC is the legal authorized agent for the charm. And acts on BEHALF of the charm's requests. So yes, the content that is ILLEGALLY uploaded to other sites is copyright infringement and is usually removed by the SC DMCA Legal team. Again, this is PER the charm's request.

I guess the moral of the story is: If you adore a charm and want to collect her content, then do it now. Cuz you never know when that charm will retire and her site will close.

Also, you have to remember we are accessing the Internet in the USA. The internet we are using in America is not the same that is being accessed thru-out the world.

A lot of stuff on Southern Charms can be found on other Web services around the world if you know where to look and where SC legal team has no jurisdiction and copywriter laws don't apply.

It's a odd situation when you dealing with the internet, unfortunately technology is moving faster than the law can keep up.

If SC were to ever shut down, then the model herself would have the task of sending the DMCA's herself, or she has the option of hiring a company to do it for her. There are plenty out there that offer this service.

This would not make the content, free for all. As I stated earlier, the model herself is the copyright owner. She retains lifetime ownership of all content, unless she signs it away in a written agreement. Additionally, There are ways to track the photos to find where they are posted, even if those photos have their file names changed.
And, most places in other countries that have copyright infringed files uploaded to them are more than willing to remove those files and to ban the uploader of those files.
On the rare occasions that a webplace doesn't want to assist, then their ISP can be contacted and they can be reported.

Another option is to track down the POSTER's ISP.

I'm not trying to debate you at all, but as a model who is affected by the reposting of my content, I do feel it is necessary to refute the common misconceptions that many believe concerning reposting of charm content.

For those complaining that they can't get an idea of what older sets contained because the loophole of looking at archived preview pictures has been corrected, note that thumbnail sizes will be LARGER from here on out and it is much easier to see what's going on in a photo set. Any good charm knows that the leading photo for a photo set has to show what the set is about. I already have 9 updates with the bigger thumbnails on my site and I think it is very easy to see what the photo sets feature. I think they look great, and I would HOPE that someone would see one they would like to see more of and then click the join button to see those photos.

I also have A LOT of updates, and my quality of production has increased tremendously since I began in 2006 (over 1700 updates ago)! I would much rather a prospective buyer judge me on my most recent work than my older stuff. Judge my site on the quality that I put out NOW.

On a different note, I am LOVING the new slideshow feature! Have you seen it? You can test it on the preview photos on my site now. I would love to know what you guys think about it!

The slideshow is a great idea, saves a lot of time from having to click on every photo individually. But it only appears to be available on your site at the moment. I hope it becomes the norm across SC.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the slide show... I can see how on a smart phone it would be good, but on a desktop, the old way seems to be better... just my two cents.

When I'm on my desktop with a mouse, etc, it's easier to click back and forth, and if I want to jump from say image 3 in a set to image 6, it's easier to do so by going back to the set's page, rather than through photos 4 and 5... it's much more so when there are lots of photos in a given set. Does that help you out at all Lace?

The slideshow doesn't stop you from being able to go back and forth between photos and the photo page. You can still click on the photo you want without having to go through the complete slideshow.

I have been doing that, but I end up with lots of windows open, and it takes a while longer to download pages constantly. You can't please everyone all the time, and I guess this isn't my time.
