What does everyone think it means to be an amateur, a professional, a pornstar?

Also are most labels in porn based on the opinion of the labeler? For example. BBW, PAWG, MILF Are there any hard standards?

I have my opinions I would love to hear yours first.

I consider amateur status to mean that you arent trying to pay your Bill's for it, most of your life is outside of porn, etc, so when I have a conversation with you we can talk about more than just sex. make sense?

I think it all comes down to the labeler, what they see or don't see, there beliefs or lack thereof, and if they understand or even care what they are looking at. Is it porn? Is she a professional or porn star? Amateur? Perhaps she is. At the end of the day this is how I view anyone within the adult business. We are all artists creating what we love to, and have a passion for, freedom of expression. My model and I loved what we used to do, never hurt anyone, learned a lot along the way, and had a lot of fun doing it. Labels never bothered me and still don't. If you love doing it, go for it.

I consider myself an amateur because I don't do it full time. It is something on the side. Now the quality of my photos have gotten a lot better over the years as my husband decided to go back to college for photography and Veterans Affairs bought him amazing photography equipment through the vocational rehab programs, but since he was determined to be 100% disabled he doesn't work as a professional photographer any longer. Even when he was working as a professional photographer, I considered myself an amateur because I am not a model. I am not trained to be a model. I am just an average American woman who sometimes likes to get naughty on camera.

I consider amateur being the equivalent of "indie rock" in music. it's not mainstream and mass produced.

I totally agree.
I've been on SC for nearly 15 years, but I consider myself "amateur" I'm not a pro by any means, but just a housewife loving being able to play dress up, in a very slutty (xxx) style
SC is the only site I'm on, and everything I do is posted to my site.

Don't know who said it first, but I've heard it from Dieter Bohlen (the Modern Talking guy, remember?). He said that "the pros had sunk the Titanic."

He was congratulating a group of musicians, I guess, after their perfomance at the Super Talent show.

There's a sparkle with amateurs. One can be ridiculous, one could be brilliant, one could be both. It's an amateur, who cares?

There are no 'standards' and no 'expectations' from an amateur. So no pressure. What a wonderful day!

I consider myself an amateur as well. Yes I have been on SC since 2007 but it is the only site I post to. My photographer is certainly not a professional but we have fun doing shoots together and appreciate the opportunities the additional income allows. Now if we could just get some fall color I would be a very happy charm.

For me there is a difference between 'professional' and amateur. The pro photos always look cold, glossy, and done with just 1 thing in mind-to make money.
Now here on sc its full of so many wonderful women who produce some of the best, sexiest and amazing photos. Yes I'm sure you label yourselves as amateur but they are far far better than any pro produced stuff

Amateur: A chance to see real people naked and doing sexy stuff. Eg. at home in their nighties

Pro: A sterile scene and scripted show

Pornstar: A celebrity of porn

I know that alot of my fans/members tell me that they enjoy my site because I wear things their wives/girlfriends won't wear, let them watch me masturbate or talk dirty to them, …….things they are missing at home. So even though I'm a "real person" naked and doing stuff at home, it's not completely voyeuristic …...ie normal housewife stuff. It's not scripted by any means, but it is more kinky and slutty simply due to the whole porn aspect.

An Amateur to me is Me. I take my own photos and I set up all my own backdrops
and the photo sets. I do my own videos and I am my photographer. My hubby helped me
the first year I was a charm, but he had developed Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) and could
not help me after that and then he passed away. I started in 2001 17 years ago. If you go back and check out
the sets I did way back then you will sure see a real amateur.
I do sets in my home most of the time. If I am away will use a hotel room. When you take your own photos
it does limit where you can shoot photos being alone and staying safe. So I use backdrops also they help
change themes.

This is the only site I am on. I have not been in any print magazines, only an internet one
that was for advertising my SC site. My videos are only available on my site, you cannot get them anywhere
else.

I think its up to the person viewing the sites that will decide what they think.

I consider myself a pro at what I do but I definitely fall into the category of amateur!

I think amateur kind of just means you do it at home yourself with all your own equipment. Pros work for labels and pro porn companies and the like.

As for other categories and labels, I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. I feel like I fall into the BBW category. However, I've had cam customers get legit mad at me for putting myself in that category because my boobs aren't big enough. It's the damndest thing lol.

I think if you the model feel comfortable putting yourself in a specific category that's all that matters!

It's all about how people see you. I have been told I'm a bbq but at the same time I have been told I am not. I have been asked if I am a pro or not. Well reality I am not.just want to have extra fun.z

In my oppinion : a professional is or pornstar is someone who is being paid by a studio with professional equipment & mass produced... Everyone else is amatuer...
And a pornstar being someone famous for their work in professional porn productions.

Like with the photographers, or film makers, of the analog era. All that gear used to be heavy, clunky and expensive. Suitable for professional studios.
Today everyone has a digital camera and a computer. Plus, the social trend is way more indulging towards nudity.

Marketing-wise, specialized social hubs call the models with the 'pornstar' suffix, like 'our XYZpornstars are doing this or that' -- making us believe that we're pornstars.

But when hubby bragged about being married to a 'pornstar' I instantly corrected him: I am an erotic model, or a mature model, or just a model. Not a pornstar.

In men's fantasy world, a pornstar might be some ethereal person, yet in my reality this is not the case: true pornstars face occupational hazards, jut like any other workers in any other industry. But for me, having sex in front of the camera is still a romantic and intimate activity, because I make love to my man, I pose for him.
Don't know how I would react in a professional studio, surrounded by strangers. Not sure if I'd be as natural as I am at home, or on the fields, with my man alone.

This is what makes me an amateur at performing, not an amateur at having sex, mind you.
