Being of Irish descent , and having spent seven years in Ireland from 1988-1995 and Northern Ireland as well...this makes me laugh a bit . You wont catch an Irishman drinking green beer or eating corned beef that day. They are American inventions for St. Patrick's Day. You will find it in Ireland, but that is for the tourists who expect it in pubs in Dublin. Back in the day I frequented the "Widow Scallans" , you wouldn't have found a drop if green beer there. Might even have gotten dismissed from the pub, or given a knock on the noggin for your troubles. The Irish actually don't go out and get drunk on "Paddy's Day". The actual name for the day is "The Feast of Saint Patrick. It is a holy day in the Catholic calendar. Most people will pass the day by going to church, and then going home for a "feast". Most likely consisting of lamb or bacon , and definitely not corned beef.

Until the late 70's because it being a Catholic feast day, the bars were closed. Most will wear some patch of green to honor the day, maybe a shamrock to honor the day. Some wont, and they usually are the Protestants who don't celebrate the day at all....and in rebellion will wear something orange. There was even a parade until the 90's in Ireland, and it was started to bolster tourism.

Thanks for making me smile.....

I love the flowers that are starting to poke out of the ground. Can't wait for everything to start to bloom.
