I get the basic cable package, only because I can't get a signal through my antenna where I live. Yet all I seem to watch at the moment is The Big Bang Theory, as that's really the only decent show on at the moment.

Ohh...I'm guessing you don't get Fringe then. It's my only Don't Miss show on tv right now

I've never seen it. It is on over here on cable and satellite, but I've never got round to seeing it yet. Is it something you have to watch right from the start or could I pick it up mid season and just get on with it?

You'd be lost starting mid season without a translator I've been watching since the very first episode of season 1. I think I became addicted then too.
I've taken to watching Alcatraz now as well. Not quite as good but worth checking out. It shouldn't be too hard to catch on to the theme without seeing the previous episodes.

I think Alcatraz is just about to start over here, I might set the box to record it. I've not had a "must see" US drama since 24 ended.

Check it out. You may enjoy it. And start Fringe from the beginning. Very XFiles ish but weirder.

I only have cable because I get it with my apt rent, but I have to have TCM ,so I would probably have to pay for it if I didn't. But the new digital sub-channels are really bringing it over here in the US. Not sure if you have those over there, Gman, but here there is a channel called Me-TV that shows tons of older programs all the time--Star Trek, Lost in Space, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Car 54 Where are you?, Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes...on and on....can't even list them all. There are a couple others who do the same thing, and show older movies too. And these are free, over the air, channels.

Gman, I want to add, that Me-TV features a horror host, like the old days, and he features great films every Sat night. This week it's THE MUMMY'S GHOST, for example. Old school Universal films, mostly.

With all the channels we get over here, there aren't many that show decent classic TV any more. CBS give us Star Trek, Film 4 and More 4 are good for classic 30s and 40s movies, but only during the day. TCM is sadly a premium channel, so I don't get that. CBS have a horror channel, but it's mainly rubbish 80s and 90s TV fare.
And the only Perry Mason we ever seem to get is the 80s TV movie revival series.

Actually for the age and all, if you want to see a REALLY scary movie to watch late night, believe it or not get the 1921 version of Nosferatu. Max Schrek is the most scary version of a vampire ever and even inspired a movie about him actually BEING a vampire a few years ago (starring William Dafoe)

I completely agree with the best horror coming out of the early days of movies. Back before digital editting, special effects and high end makeup people. Back when the actors had to actually transform themselves into the character.

I'm currently watching Dog Soldiers, it's one of the most fun horror films I've seen in recent years.
