Returning Charms and Gents are required to use new material for their updates. However, since their old SC sites no longer exist we can not compare one update with an old update. The update staff does recognize many of the duplicates, but due to the sheer number of updates done each day some are missed.
However, it is easy for you to let us know about the reused updates by sending us an e-mail notice of the duplication. You can write to either SC Tech Support at Tech.Support@southern-charms.com or directly to me at Lord.Hardcore@southern-charms.com and give us the info on the reused update. You can also use the PM feature on this board to notify me as well.
We will issue a warning to the Charm/Gent in question and remind them of the rule to use new material for their updates and that they can only used their previous updates as bonuses in their member area.

1) Is there an obligation fir each Charm to commit to a minimum amount of updates over a certain time period?
2) New Charms are required to have 3 updates. However some then take an age to add updates 4, 5, 6 etc. wouldn't it be a better idea to check that they had a volume of content that could be added over the first 2 months. That way if you 'took a chance' on a new charm there would be some guarantee that you would see 8/10 updates in first 2 months?
Happy to hear any feedback or refinements

One recent update was a repost of an update that was reposted about a year ago. Even the thumbnails for the updates are identical. I will send you the name in a PM.

We are under no obligation to update each month or to put up a certain number of updates when we first start beyond the first three. Each site actually belongs to the Charm so its entirely up to her. We use to be obligated to update twice monthly or loose our sites, but a policy change now leaves it up to the Charm as to whether the site stays live or is pulled. Some of the new Charms do their three updates and maybe a few after that and find that this isn't as easy as it looks or too time consuming and they just stop updating and don't bother to have SC remove their site. So its up to the potential member to decide if they want to join the site knowing that the Charm is not updating. In some other cases life has simply gotten in the way and the Charm will start updating again.
I and many other Charms update on a regular bases and if an update is missed it is usually because something has gone wrong such as photos being corrupted in transit or notification emails not arriving at SC.
I hope I've answered your question.

Sometimes if a shoot is going really well I will end up with as many as 300 photos. Since I only post 80 to 100 including the free photos that leaves a lot left over. I will keep these photos and post them later, but always with a note in my text that these were photos not included in the previous update. I try to not repost anything that isn't at least a year old or preferably older than that. The photos may even change the theme of the original update by what I chose to use in the original update versus what was left out. I have had to use these pictures at times when life has gotten in the way and I have been unable to shoot as many new updates as I like, but don't want my members to feel slighted by not posting on my regular days.
I know there are other Charms who have a lot of leftover photos, whether they use them or not is up to them. I also do what I call "Leftover" updates. These are made up of photos leftover from other updates, but not used, but there aren't enough left for a full update. I'll pick four to six of these and post them titled as Leftovers. They have always been well received by my membership.
However as LH has stated if the update is identical right down to the thumbnails that is not allowed and I think most Charms genuinely try to post new content.

You have indeed Bea Brite. I've learned something new. Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated

How long is that dead page going to be left to sit there? In some ways the old polices were better. One of the things about SC I always like was that sites that were not kept current were removed quickly. I wonder how many members would a page like this have anyway?

Sometimes Charms run in to personal issues that prevent them from updating for some time...SC lets their sites stay up until they can get back to updating. It's a lot easier than ripping the site down, then having to rebuild it in a few months when things return to normal for the Charm.

I understand life happens. But when a site sits there untouched for month after month with no up date it looks like it was abandon. I'm sure there is still some minimal administration cost if only cost hard drive space to back it up. If this policy have been in place since SC began there would likely be up SC15 instead of SC4.
