US clocks forward

Postby Model_Amy » Mon Mar 09, 2026 9:24 am

I see in the USA the clocks went forward over the weekend. Ours (in the UK) don't change for a couple of weeks. Have never understood why we cannot all do this at the same time! Can anyone explain why not?

I wish it would be constant , I always have trouble adjusting my sleep each time it changes. Have a wonderful day.

I hate doing it at all. I wish we didn't have to do it and I admit, I don't understand the science of it. Apparently there's a good reason for it......................right? :d

I love it so much, I wish they did it more often. :)

No, never liked the time change, never will.

Over here in Britain I was always told it was to do with in the northern parts of Scotland it avoids children coming home from school in the dark. Looking at a world map and lines of latitude, there's got to be parts of Canada that have 24 hours daylight in the summer and 24 hours of darkness in the winter so would make clock changing pointless anyway.

I know when I was in Kenya on my honeymoon all those years ago, being on the equator, the days daylight were 12 hours long. Sun up at 6.30am, sundown 6.30pm.

Wow!

Thanks for that. Still don't understand why US/UK can't go forward/go back on the *same* dates?

Oh that's an easy one. It's to keep all us Charms outside of the US guessing when our deadline time for updates has changed :d

U.S. charm here...............
Ladies, you are not alone.

For me? Spring forward means to fall behind on every deadline I have. I tell my members " If I fall behind this week it's because I can handle taxes, grandkids, and life… but not losing an hour of sleep." :d

I'll confess, I don't really understood it. I mean I understand the original purpose --- maximize production and save on energy use to take advantage of daylight. But in today's age?

I know there have been laws proposed in the U.S. to get rid of daylight savings time entirely. But they haven't passed. And I certainly have no idea why the U.S. is so out of step with Europe (unless of course that's the whole point which wouldn't shock me ).

What I do know is that I love getting an extra hour and I hate losing one. :-)

In Europe the Nordic countries see it different than the Southern countries ... each year the same arguments, ....
