Thanksgiving Plans?

Postby Italian Lace SC4 » Tue Nov 20, 2018 7:10 pm

I'm having a low-key Thanksgiving this year and I'm pretty excited about it...

Hubby and I will get up early on Thursday to make our favorite dishes (which does NOT include turkey cuz it's a big ol' pain in the butt!). Most of the prep will be done on Wednesday so everything should go pretty smoothly. We'll probably graze throughout the day (and for the next week!) on our green bean casserole, stuffing, ham, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin pie! We'll spend the day watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, my absolute favorite Thanksgiving tradition, followed by The National Dog Show, and then we'll snuggle in bed to watch a Harry Potter marathon on Netflix!

I remember missing big Thanksgiving celebrations in the past, but this year I'm so excited to just relax at home!

What are your Thanksgiving plans this year?

My husband and I are "empty nesters" and have been for many years now. <Our daughter is 38>
Now we have grandkids.
In the past we used to host all the big family holiday meals.
But now?
Our daughter and her husband and kids go to his sisters house.
So.....we are on our own. <We do get Christmas Morning though>

Our plans? We have a reservation at a casino, and will spend the night there having fun playing slots and using the fancy smancy room to shoot SC content :d We actually had our traditional turkey dinner last Sunday. So I'm thinking maybe Smashburger on Thursday? :d

Also empty nesters so it is tough going from making a huge dinner to making a reservation but we too will watch the parade and dog show then meet dear friends at a favorite place for traditional thanksgiving dinner.

Wherever you are enjoy the day.

Our Thanksgiving happens online this year, like many others before. This because our local Harvest Day came and went on Nov. 11.
But we enjoy writing to our friends and relatives in the States, seizing the occasion to show our gratitude, to give thanks, which I'm doing here too.

I usually pick up quotes -or photo quotes. :-)

Else, there will be a regular day with a special dinner.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We will have a quiet day at home. We are cooking for just us and our daughter and her boyfriend. Nothing much. Then when she goes to work we will shoot some Christmas photos and videos. Then we will shoot more this weekend.

All sound like fun. For me, I enjoy getting away, first it's a dead week at work, so the time away is easy, second... flights out of the US are cheap, and if you fly back on Saturday, it's not too crowded, so long story short I went to Ireland... although it's not simple to find Turkey for dinner, it is doable! So I'm going to go wonder around the Zoo here tomorrow and do other fun things, assuming it doesn't rain too much. As long asyour not the stereotypical American tourist, people will generally love talking to you and be nice in return. Hope everyone else has a great Turkey day!

This is for Martinae. I am assuming you will be able to get a table and seat, on short notice, but please do check out the Merryplough Boy Pub. On Edmondstown Road down in South Dublin. They always put on a good Thanksgiving feast. Their turkey comes with a cranberry sage and chestnut stuffing. They also have a braised beef dish( in Guinness), that I am fond of. In addition The Merryplough Boys also put on a great show. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed.

We tried smashburger this spring when we were in Vegas. LOVE the spicy Fries.

It sounds like everyone had a great day planned. I hope all of you had a great day.

Well this is after the fact so I'm not relating plans, but telling the tales, LOL. As usually we were having a huge gathering at our place with 10 for dinner. Prior to Wednesday I made 3 attempts to do the Thanksgiving grocery shopping. Each time while I was pushing my cart around, my mother-in-law called me and I had to drop everything and go take her to the doctor. She had some complications from back surgery and is finally turning the corner. So, I didn't get to do the shopping until Wednesday afternoon. I looked all over for a fresh bird and could only find really small ones, sort of like glorified chickens. So, my daughter talked me into getting a 28 lb monster that was frozen solid. So starting Wednesday evening we started every trick in the book to get it defrosted. I finally got it reasonably thawed and in the oven by 5 AM. The good news is it came out great and of course my sons and husband love the leftovers. We had a lot to be thankful for this year and it was nice to have everyone home at the same time for a nice dinner.
