Need an insider's view

Postby Hung8Tung » Tue Nov 06, 2012 12:51 am

OK, I've been kicking around the idea of throwing my hat into the ring and trying to be a Southern Gent. What I want to know is - what's it like from an "insider" perspective?

I've always gotten the feeling that, in general, doing anything porn related to make money essentially becomes a one-way street - once you do it, it's difficult to go back to doing something else because of all kinds of prudish bullshit about porn in modern society. At the same time though, I've always gone out of my way NOT to post a lot of pictures of myself online (I'm generally very private in real life) so there's very little out there that someone could do image searches and "out" me. And of course, there's the stage name aspect which also helps with anonymity.

So, the up side is I have fun doing it, make money and (with luck) get to have fun sex with beautiful women every now and then. Aside from the "porn industry stigma", what's the down side? What are some of the problems you've encountered? Of course, scheduling, health and technical issues are going to pop up from time to time - that's to be expected and can be worked around if you plan far enough ahead. What I'm interested in are what other potential pitfalls and stumbling blocks are there along the way? What else would I have to deal with to make this run smoothly?

And of course, I'd imagine the girls encounter at least some of the same problems as the guys, so Charms feel free to chime in on this too. I'm also interested in all manner of opinions - positive, negative, male, female. Don't just be a "cheerleader" for SC.

You've got to want to do it for the fun - the money is just a bonus :).
And I personally haven't met up with any other charms in the (almost) 2 years that I've been on SC ... not everyone has sex with each other lol. And often times it is just friends

Pros:
- it's fun
- an excuse to buy lingerie/sexy clothes
- an excuse to buy sex toys
- a bit of extra money
- compliments from fans

Cons:
- possibility of being "found out" by employers
- possibility of being "found out" by friends/family
- haters (nasty emails, insults, etc.)

Hi innes,

What part of sex ISN'T fun? OK, well, diseases are definitely a hazard, I'll admit that. I've been lucky so far though. :)
Buying lingerie/sexy clothes/sex toys: I'm a guy - I don't know what qualifies as "sexy" male clothing and most of my knowledge of sex toys (which I admit is not very comprehensive) is that they're designed for use on women, not men. I also don't exactly have muscles bulging out in 87 different directions. The shape I'm in, I could donate my body to science fiction. :P
Money & compliments - always a benefit regardless of who it comes from or why.

Found out by employers - I have a home business that I'm the sole employee of so that's not really an issue. It's been growing very slowly though - I reach a VERY SMALL niche market of customers; it's not one of these "conquer the world" ideas - which is why I'm looking for some other form of income. Doing something like this would also effectively be a home business - it would be completely under my control of how it develops and how far I take it.
Found out by family/friends - 99% of them are all on the very conservative side and view porn as "evil" so they wouldn't even go looking for it. The remaining 1% are people I'd trust to keep it a secret in the first place.
Haters can be ignored. I don't expect to appeal to everyone.

I guess my biggest concern is that doing it feels like it's a "one-way street". Some celebrity said in an interview once "You can't get un-famous." I kind of feel like getting into this is the same thing - once it's out there, there's no taking it back and undoing it if I change my mind.

As much as I love SC, being on here doesn't really make you "famous." Sure, some people will probably remember you but it's not likely they'll see you on the street and say hi if you decide to stop being a gent. Heck, I know plenty of girls who were on SC once and have never been spoken to about it again, and never plan on coming back. They just chose to move on and it's no biggy. They didn't start doing porn and HAVE to make it their lives.
Porn doesn't just sweep you in and make you an instant star who HAS to "go with the flow" of porn things. You choose what you want to do, how far you are willing to go, and stop when you want to stop.

Hope that helps! :)

I've toyed with the idea myself, especially after doing a few guest shoots and having charms encourage me to (which I was VERY complimented by). The main stepping stones for me was being able to constantly update and wanting to have guests, as my area isn't overly populated with charms...so I do the occassional guest shoot if I can...and love it :)

I wasn't thinking "famous" as in "celebrity", My concern was in how easy/hard it would be to put it in my past come the day I decide not to do it anymore.

Still mulling this over. Maybe I'll do some test pics just for myself to see how they come out.

Another thing that some men might not feel comfortable with is that the vast majority of your audience will be male, and a large number of those will be gay. It's not a bad thing in any way, obviously, but it is something else that you would have to think about, whether you'd be happy with that thought.

@Hung: Well I don't really know you so I can't say how you'll feel when/if the day comes that you are over it. That's all up to you. <3

@gman: VERY true! From my understanding of being a Gent you either have to have a good amount of m/f pictures and videos OR play up the gay thing pretty hard to make it work. But again, that's just what I've heard.

I know, that's something else I've been debating about this. For the most part, porn is male customer/female product (for lack of a better term) oriented, so trying to appeal to women as the customer is reaching a very small market. And I'm not gay so not only do I not know HOW to reach that market, it's not an aspect I'm even interested in pursuing in the first place.

I completely hear what you're saying about not being able to come back from doing porn... I love being a charm and will never regret it, but I won't lie and say I haven't had my doubts. And contrary to what Rosie said, I do get recognized quite often! The career field I'm going into won't be accepting of my "porn" past, but I just have to hope everything will be ok because I believe i shouldn't be ostracized because of it. It's nobodies business and isn't doing anybody harm. That's how I rationalize it for myself anyway :D

That's pretty cool that you've been recognized :). I haven't been recognized, hopefully I don't. It is a preference.

I've been doing SC for 8 years and all I can say is that I wish I would have started sooner. I think it's something you have to be comfortable with and ENJOY doing because once you're on the web, you can never take it back, so no regrets ever! You have to be 110% sure that it's something you want to do.

For me, I have fun! I enjoy dressing AND undressing in front of an audience. I've only met up with one charm, Oh Alex <we're BFF's in real life> and we don't have sex, but just have fun when we shoot together. OMG do we have fun! I've never laughed so hard in my life than I do when I'm with her!
The extra $$ is definitely nice, but honestly it's not gonna pay the mortgage.
I enjoy the emails I get and I've made a few friends, real friends, in the time I've been on SC.
It's definitely an experience that I cherish and enjoy and will never regret.
I'm open about what I do and most of my family is aware of my SC site. I'm not ashamed so why hide it? ;)

You do have the worry of being recognized out in public, but the times it's happened to me, the guys were very nice about it. They didn't make a big deal or make a scene, or call me "serena"......
