Old and New Content

Postby carib » Fri Jan 13, 2012 10:38 am

Hi All,

I'd like to put this forward as a subject for discussion rather than a item of complaint.

Over the past few months I've seen the return of various Charms to the site, a great development since I was a big fan of certain ladies during their previous appearance on SC. The thing is, now that they are back one sees "old" content that was already posted during their earlier incarnation. One signs up with them again but rather than seeing new material you tend to see a mix of old and new. Is there any sort of policy about this? Of course, there may be members who never saw the earlier material but if you did then it is a bit difficult to pay your subs and wait for random new postings.

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

Peter,

When a Charm comes back they are suppose to update with new material. We do not always recognize the material because a different person is probably working on the new returning Charm's update than when the update was original used. By all means, when you see this happen just drop me an e-mail and we will contact the Charm to insure new and fresh content. We know that is what you expect and will do everything we can to make sure that you are satisfied on that front.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Yes it would be nice if returning charms would have fresh content...

When you see the old content it should only be as a bonus/member issue only... we were told it was ok to use the old content that way however not as a "new" update.

Have a great day!
Love,

Hello all,

I have a question about the posting policy. Does anyone from the SC administrative team check updates to see if they are new? I ask because I've notice a certain charms last 8 updates are older updates reposted as new. It certainly is fair to paying site members.

Returning Charms and Gents are required to use new material for their updates. However, since their old SC sites no longer exist we can not compare one update with an old update. The update staff does recognize many of the duplicates, but due to the sheer number of updates done each day some are missed.

However, it is easy for you to let us know about the reused updates by sending us an e-mail notice of the duplication. You can write to either SC Tech Support at Tech.Support@southern-charms.com or directly to me at Lord.Hardcore@southern-charms.com and give us the info on the reused update. You can also use the PM feature on this board to notify me as well.

We will issue a warning to the Charm/Gent in question and remind them of the rule to use new material for their updates and that they can only used their previous updates as bonuses in their member area.

Old and New Content

Postby Steev » Mon Jan 30, 2012 10:08 am

Sort of an associated questions

1) Is there an obligation fir each Charm to commit to a minimum amount of updates over a certain time period?

2) New Charms are required to have 3 updates. However some then take an age to add updates 4, 5, 6 etc. wouldn't it be a better idea to check that they had a volume of content that could be added over the first 2 months. That way if you 'took a chance' on a new charm there would be some guarantee that you would see 8/10 updates in first 2 months?

Happy to hear any feedback or refinements

The charm I am referring to is not one that left and returned, her site has been continuous I have been a member of her site on and off for years. Lately she been taking 5 or 6 year old updates and posting them again. I was giving her the benefit of the doubt because you never know what is going on in someone's personal life. One recent update was a repost of an update that was reposted about a year ago. Even the thumbnails for the updates are identical. I will send you the name in a PM.

We are under no obligation to update each month or to put up a certain number of updates when we first start beyond the first three. Each site actually belongs to the Charm so its entirely up to her. We use to be obligated to update twice monthly or loose our sites, but a policy change now leaves it up to the Charm as to whether the site stays live or is pulled. Some of the new Charms do their three updates and maybe a few after that and find that this isn't as easy as it looks or too time consuming and they just stop updating and don't bother to have SC remove their site. So its up to the potential member to decide if they want to join the site knowing that the Charm is not updating. In some other cases life has simply gotten in the way and the Charm will start updating again.

I and many other Charms update on a regular bases and if an update is missed it is usually because something has gone wrong such as photos being corrupted in transit or notification emails not arriving at SC.

I hope I've answered your question

Sometimes if a shoot is going really well I will end up with as many as 300 photos. Since I only post 80 to 100 including the free photos that leaves a lot left over. I will keep these photos and post them later, but always with a note in my text that these were photos not included in the previous update. I try to not repost anything that isn't at least a year old or preferably older than that. The photos may even change the theme of the original update by what I chose to use in the original update versus what was left out. I have had to use these pictures at times when life has gotten in the way and I have been unable to shoot as many new updates as I like, but don't want my members to feel slighted by not posting on my regular days.

I know there are other Charms who have a lot of leftover photos, whether they use them or not is up to them. I also do what I call "Leftover" updates. These are made up of photos leftover from other updates, but not used, but there aren't enough left for a full update. I'll pick four to six of these and post them titled as Leftovers. They have always been well received by my membership.

However as LH has stated if the update is identical right down to the thumbnails that is not allowed and I think most Charms genuinely try to post new content

I know a few charms personally and the have told are a certain point it is hard to come up with something new constantly. I was going be in a shoot and a video with one I know but timing never worked out.
The question is if a charm just walks away from their site how long do you let it sit there? I've been viewing this site since 1999 and if every individual page was left up without periodic cleaning there would be SC15 by now. Have said that i run across pictures on the internet from now deleted SC pages and would love to see the full sites. I had some of my favorites charms archived on cds, and the cds went bad and these charms pages were removed long ago.

I'm not trying to say not to join a new girl's site, but if you are super worried about having a good amount of updates you could always join a site that is full of updates already. Also, if you see text on a girl's site that says they update a certain number of times a week you can always book mark them and check them out for a little while before joining. it's a pain to have to watch without becoming a member but then you'll know if they are just saying they update or if they really do. :)

I am here just over 10 years now with 1319 Sets. When I do a set I take 300 to 350 photos.
many times they all come out well, but there are just to many photos for one set.
Sometimes I will post a part 1 and part 2 in a row if they need to be together. Then sometimes
I have a hundred plus good photos left and use them at another time. I try to call the sets leftovers
or extras and write that in my text. I think in 10 years I did a look back on previous sets about 4 or 5 times.
Then again, members side has photos not on my site before.
Stop by I add 2 and 3 new sets a week.

I have a question about pages that seem to be abandoned. My example is there is what would be considered a new charm with only eight updates, but her last update was in July. How long is that dead page going to be left to sit there? In some ways the old polices were better. One of the things about SC I always like was that sites that were not kept current were removed quickly. I wonder how many members would a page like this have anyway?

Sometimes Charms run in to personal issues that prevent them from updating for some time...SC lets their sites stay up until they can get back to updating. It's a lot easier than ripping the site down, then having to rebuild it in a few months when things return to normal for the Charm.

I've noticed this too. Over the years you have new charms coming onto the site but a lot of them seem to only ever post 3 to 10 sets and then stop. Maybe the level of response / feedback was not considered worth continuing?

I understand life happens. But when a site sits there untouched for month after month with no up date it looks like it was abandon. I'm sure there is still some minimal administration cost if only cost hard drive space to back it up. If this policy have been in place since SC began there would likely be up SC15 instead of SC4.

I tend to agree with n2kstuff5, It could be a bit confusing especially to some one that is new to SC. Some one new having to browse thru the 800+ charms to find one that interests them, they find a girl and might join their site on impulse..being a pretty girl, like their free pics or for what ever reason! Only to find the charm has not updated in a while. I'm guilty of that myself, but the girl actually started updating again shortly after I joined so i lucked out. But I do also understand most of the charms have jobs, family and other commitments that might keep them from updating regularly. I can understand leaving a site up for a couple months or so, but 4 months or longer, most likely their not coming back. This is probably one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't situations..lol

There are many reasons to leave a site up longer than 3-4 months without an update. Including major health issues on the part of the Charm or to allow a 6 month membership to run out or even the videos are still selling so the site is allowed to stay. The thing is we don't know why SC chooses to allow those sites to last but I am sure if there was an issue over space or money the sites would not last.
I travelled around for the summer of 2010 and could not update as frequently as I normally do. I did this for work so did not have a choice. While I still tried to update as often as I could, it was not my normal 2 updates a week. As soon as I was home again I went back to my normal updating. I would have hated to lose my site to only have to start over again when my six months of travel was done.

I know a few Charms personally, and one I know has had health issues and couldn't update her site for a few months. It becomes harder to look at the view all of SC because of size. Maybe leave it a for one year. I would think that if you don't update within a year you probably aren't coming back. I thinking if the current policy had been in effect from day one there might be double the number of pages now and it would be ever harder to view it all.
